(Hello birdy!!)

After a long time I was able to capture this cute fellow.

I've seen this red bird ever since I came to Mauritius and always wanted to take a shot of it, but I always miss the chance.

The excitement was quite different from the bug this morning. Forgive the resolution of the picture since it was cut off from a larger picture which I took. Whats amazing is that this fellow can be seen on the entire island.

In the same size, there is a yellow version of this bird too which will definitely be my next challenge.

sweet saturday

Tour de Grand Baie + Happy Valentines!!!

Happy Valentines!!! Well that goes for me this time since Eriko is not around. It is going to be our first Valentines that we are not spending the time together. So instead of being trapped in the house I thought of stretching my legs and go to the Northern part of the island. My target town was Grand Baie. It is known to be one the most popular areas for tourist.

Apparently the Chinese president is visiting Mauritius next week and I see alot of Chinese flags decorated in Town. As you can see from the picture above. The weather is perfect and it was deadly HOT!

Above are pictures from the Central Market at Port Louis. Believe it or not, this was the first time I see fresh fish. Most of the super markets here only sells frozen fishes that are mostly vacuum packed. I was really happy to see this since I was dying for fish!

I finally got my self to Grand Baie after an hour bus ride from Port Louis and the first thing that caught my attention was the emerald blue sea!

This was taken out of fun. I guess the little ants are having a special dinner tonight!!

Perfect weather, Perfect sun, Perfect color, Perfect clouds.... Perfect Beach.

Some view from the bus ride on the way home.

That is Flic en Flac beach looking from above. The sunset is coming!!

My first sunset in Mauritius.

And after all the self tour and being so exhusted, as I reach home, a bouquet of flower was waiting for me. It was from Eriko who arraigned the deliver. I was really surprise to know that there was such system in Mauritius:b Thank you Eri!!! Miss you Lots!!!

Cyclone?

Last week there was an alert 2 cyclone announced in the island and it was my first time to experience it. I've heard about the cyclones in Mauritius and I thought that cyclones are like tornado. Apparently it was not... Cyclone, Hurricane, Typhoon are all the same thing and it is just called in a different way by it's region. Why does it have to be so confusing right? well the Cyclone lasted like a week and fortunately it did not land directly in Mauritius.

Here is a photo of how the beach looked like in Flic en Flac.

Water Front

One of the first places I visited during my early days in Mauritius. Probably the biggest mall the Mauritius. It is located at the capital town, Port Louis. The place is quite big with several malls connected to each other. It got almost everything is here from Cinemas, arcades, restaurants, pubs, casino...etc

At first I thought "Coiffure" was a coffee, so a coffee shop was in my mind, but as I walked through this road I see people cutting hair! It was a beauty parlor! well apparently Coiffure means hair in French...

Blue Penny Museum. Blue Penny was a name of a postal stamp and apparently it was one of the oldest stamps in the world.

Wood carvings. The artistic taste of it was quite new to me.

View from the top. Main road of Water Front

Yes, one of the famous attraction in Mauritius is the Casinos. There are almost in every major town. On day time only slot machines are played and from 9PM on wards card games and other casino games are operated.

View inside the mall

Looking at the main road of Port Louis.

Looking at water from a far. And yes you can see the Mc Donald's sign which is fairly near from Water Front.

On the way home

It has been almost a month since I arrived in Mauritius. Good thing that I'm starting to get use to with the local dishes. Currently I'm living in a village right next to the beach. It takes me roughly 5 mins by walk!!

The above picture is the view on my way home from the office.

Deep blue sky with gigantic clouds floating.
It just takes away my tireness for the day.

In the bus

In stead of staying at home and going to the super market to connect to the Internet I thought of riding the bus and try my luck to explore the island. Well my first goal was to challenge on going to the Capital, Port Louis. There were several bus stops around the place but whats funny is that the signs are so small the it can fit in to my nap sack

So to begin with my journy, I asked some of the locals near the bus stop and told me to ride the bus that says "Port Louis".... How easy is that? So I jumped in to the next bus that fortunately says to Port Louis. After several minutes, the conductor came up to me and was asking for my fee. He told me it was 26 Rupees and gave him a 50 Rupees. To my surprise the change came with a ticket that was electronically created where the bus #, company name, fee, and date was written. Whoa!! technology I smell! To those who know how the public buses in the Philippines are, I'm sure it is a surprise!

Anyway it is really a nice feeling riding the old type buses where you see a lot of the local faces. Some are happy, some are talking, laughing, staring the walls, sky, the person next to him. Human observation is always fun during bus ride for me.

After an hour of ride....

I successfully manage to get my self to the Port Louis!!!

Mc Donalds in Port Louis

Yes! The most popular junk food in the world! So far I've seen only one branch of Mc Donalds in the island which is located at the capital city Port Louis and from the rumor, there is only ONE store in the entire island!!! I can't still imagine how there are more Pizza Huts and KFCs in town than Mc Donalds. I rather have more of this then the other.

Every thing looks the same, interior, the uniform, the adds, and the menus. Though there is one thing that caught my eye that wasn't familiar to me at all. The BIG Chicken Mac!!! I was craving for beef that time so I had a Quarter Pounder than the Chicken. Taste is almost the same but the fries is a little different from what I know.

Funny how we all the know that junk foods are not healthy for us but still we buy and eat them like there is no tomorrow.
